A weather day in Samoëns: cinema, reading and a pastry stop
When the ski day changes, three village addresses give you different ways to use the afternoon: a film at Le Criou, reading at the municipal library and a pastry stop in Grande Rue. Choose the activity first, then check its opening and the journey from your chalet.
The 3 places
Le Criou: choose the film and its language
Le Criou cinema is at 219 Rue des Billets. Its current programme gives you the screening time, language and ticket information. A film’s original English title does not guarantee an English-language screening. Look at the details of the individual session; VOST or VOSTFR generally means the original version with subtitles. For children, check the age guidance and running time as well.
A confirmed session works as a fixed appointment for the group. People can spend the earlier part of the day separately, then meet before the film. Keep the cinema’s programme link available: the address alone does not establish that a suitable screening takes place on your chosen afternoon.
The library: a quiet option on Route de Taninges
Médiathèque François Désarnod is at 4 Route de Taninges, in the Le Petit Bellevue building. Its public contact number is +33 4 50 34 95 77. Ask about reading on site and any activities during your stay. Borrowing books and joining a workshop may have different arrangements, so mention whether you are visiting for a few days or staying longer.
This is the useful alternative for people who want a slower afternoon. Check the day’s opening before setting out from the chalet; poor weather does not change the library timetable. If part of the group chooses a film instead, arrange a village meeting time that works for both activities.
À la Jaÿsinia: the pâtisserie, not the garden
À la Jaÿsinia is at 111 Grande Rue. The pâtisserie and tea room sells pastries, chocolates and ice cream; it is separate from the hillside botanical garden with a similar name. Use the street address when sharing the meeting point. A purchase to take back to the chalet and a seated tea-room break are different plans, so check the service you want.
For a food allergy, ask the team about the specific product rather than relying on a display name. Keep this stop short if it falls between a library visit and the film. These three addresses let the group spend the day in the village without making a mountain outing the automatic substitute for cancelled skiing.
